Women were taught and influenced into thinking having a family would make them unhappy and having money was a much better option. Men that unprotected sex was highly likely to lead to Aids or other STDs and that women didn't want ot have a family.
None of this was true, men sleeping with men were at risk of stds and aids, or women sleeping with men from sub saharan africa. Money doesn't bring happiness and having a family when you are 20 is not the end of your life.
