The only one home was a 13 year old girl who had gotten home from school, and they apparently followed her. There are not many legitimate uses for full-auto anyways outside of having loads of fun as you spend hundreds of dollars for a few seconds of "target practice". A SMG is just a rifle with pistol ammo.

So while I know very little about guns, I see many benefits:
I am assuming the pistol ammo means it is a perfect choice for a woman, less kick.
Typically smaller lighter gun, but can still be accurate, unlike a pistol.
I am assuming cheaper ammo?
