Afaik it's almost impossible to filter... so we might end up having to distill water and then mineralize it. To do this for a general population would take so much power that we'd need to build nuclear power plants everywhere or build huge distillation farms out in the desert. Then the water would have to be put into natural aquifers to restore the natural mineral content. (you can't survive on distilled water alone)
