As a former D1 athlete, I can assure you we are taken care of. I received a full ride, so never paid a cent in tuition. We receive quite a bit of free meals and money when traveling so we can buy food. Sponsors have us free clothes (new blanace). Girls would be waiting outside the clubhouse after games.
Best fucking time of my life and didn't get paid a cent. The discipline and education you receive will make you enough money later in life.

Despite popular opinion, athletes still learn when not in the classroom. We have tudors that travel with us, coaches constantly teaching valuable life lessons, and not to mention the intangibles (work ethic, dedication, and team work)

I would say I'm moderately successful. Not rich but not hurting. College sports is just a higher level of everything, it's tough to explain. I think maturity has some to do with it...take things a little more serious.

Make all sports at universities intramural and take the college teams and turn them into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and sub regional teams. I've personally seen it where these guys get free passes on tests and papers, and the professors are told by the school "make sure tyrome passes or your ass is on the line". Not that this alone would fix our Uni system here, but it further waters down the value of degrees being churned out in burgerland. The school will have to be renown for, you know, the quality of its courses and research, instead of sportsball. Also these athletes would be paid according to their ability and could focus on their career path in sports if they choose to do so. The guys only half halfheartedly in it would go to uni or pick up another job, the guys in it for good would be dedicated athletes.
