Trades are fine, but your income ceiling isn't all that high unless you want to work lots of overtime--which is true with many union jobs whether that is at Boeing, Siemens, Ford, etc. There is usually no stock, relatively few cash bonuses and few qualified savings options. Benefits can be pretty good, usually some sort of pension with fairly early retirement options.
