I think a return to Buddhism, maybe infused with conservative Christian ideas would be better, because they could retain their traditional Japanese culture, while improving their culture overall.

I've thought about this a lot. Especially after reading "Silence" by Shusaku Endo, a Japanese Catholic. This book was butchered by best goy Scorsese who completely changed its final message, but, nonetheless, I do truly believe that Catholicism is the only answer for not only Japan but the World.
