If you're looking at a ~15 IQ gap, which is the generally cited number between American niggers and American whites, then that is noticeable in your average day to day interaction with people. Remember you aren't just dealing with one individual in a vacuum, us racists are considering the overall impact on society. A population that's one full standard deviation lower than average in intelligence is going to disproportionately suck up welfare, social services in general, and be a drag on the well being of the country. Add in the ethnic tensions that have only grown more pronounced in the last 20 years and it's hard to see how the presence of blacks in this country benefits whites.
I'll also take issue with what you said in the OP about 'black' being a catchall term for Africans. While Africa is a very diverse place, most American blacks are the descendants of slaves from west Africa, so there isn't actually that much diversity in the population here. Hell, even your average rural white with very little experience with other races would recognize a north African as distinct from a black, even if they just decided they were an Arab.
