Dude... not to be rude but, there are "military minded" people and there are non-"military minded people". I think you might be the latter. Suits of armour were specifically developed to prevent people from "walking up and stabbing you". Even considerably less armour Spanish soldier/sailors were able to do immense levels of damaged against markedly less primitive peoples in the conquest of Mexico. Fully armoured, modern soldiers, equipped with NVG and completely capable of engaging in close quarters combat would definitely have the edge.
