Which means the tusk size is going down as poachers are more likely to ignore them. It’s how evolution works. Traits that give you a greater chance of breeding thrive, those that don’t diminish.

I only had 3 wisdom teeth. The reason is that as our jaws got smaller, those who got infections from wisdom teeth were less likely to breed. Therefore those with either less issues with Wisdom teeth or (as in my case) fewer wisdom teeth were naturally selected in the gene pool.

Elephants evolve very slowly, since they have a low reproductive rate. It would take forever for this to lead to speciation.
