Unfortunately infidelity is on a instinct level, it can come and feel as natural to people as breathing air because humans are genetically not designed for monogamy and the concept was brought on by religion anyway, it's all based on how much willpower we have to not sleep around while in a committed relationship, which is something a lot of us should have considering all those risks of disease out there. Women in particular have a harder time controlling their desire to open their legs to every Tom, Dick and Harry because often their emotions are tied to it which tends to fluctuate when they're on their period, thereby increasing their likelihood of cheating.
There isn't much you can do to stop it from possibly happening but it helps to really get to know someone for a while before getting into a serious relationship, maybe you'll catch on to it being a possibility long before it happens.
