Before Islam, Albanian nobility frequently converted between Catholicism, Greek orthodoxy, Serbian orthodoxy etc...Albanians converted to Islam because of the nobility converting and wanting not to pay Jizya. Albanians became majority Muslim around the early 1600's.

Well there is a difference but nothing over the top. For starters the dialects have been split for over 1000 years, which resulted in Gheg still having an Infinite tense whereas Tosk does not. Likewise, sentence structures can differ greatly. Standard is based on Tosk and Gheg has got this "endearing" use, sort of like an in-family language. We poke fun at each-other for various things and build stereotypes, but we're all fine with each-other. People from vlora on the other hand are universally despised.

Consider this, there are 8-12 milion Albanians in the world. 5 million claimed are in Turkey and 6 million are in the Balkans, that leaves only around 1 million albanians spread over the world. By comparison there are 10 million Serbs, 7 millions of which are in the Balkans. Serbian diaspora outnumbers Albanian in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, US, Canada, Asutralia and so on. Albanian diaspora is concentrated mostly around us, serbian diaspora is not. In albania today muslims can become christian without any social repercussions in the blink of an eye, nobody really cares.
