How do I quit porn?

How do I quit porn?

Seriously. I've been trying to do this for a while but I've never really asked how the fuck to do it. I can tell it's having a negative impact on my life.

I'm looking for some sincere, heavy duty advice here.

Get rid of your electronics

Do you watch porn strictly to masturbate?

For the most part yes. I have a few porn sites I've begun checking habitually because I want to see if anything new and appealing has come up, though, which is part of why it's worrying me.

Well I solved my masturbation problems by getting a girlfriend with a high libido. I genuinely liked her and told her I was uncomfortable with the idea of beating my meat while I was with her. I honestly can't remember a time she denied me after I walked over and gave her the signs I was ready to go. Younger generally means higher libido if that helps.

Also while you're looking for a girl with high sexual appetite you'll be away from your source of porn anyway.

I'm definitely in a rough place and mindset in my life for dating but I intend to act on this advice in some fashion.

The best possible thing you can do for yourself is to exercise each and every day. In fact experience has shown that recovery is almost impossible without exercise. It is extremely potent in speeding up the healing process and building resistance to addiction.

Thanks for this, very interesting as I have been considering exercise after making some serious dietary changes and losing weight.

Do you think that exercise can help with other disciplinary problems too? I am kind of in a situation in my life where I feel powerless to impose sustained, positive change in my life over long periods of time.

Not exercise user but it can work. Giving yourself a schedule or adding structure to your life improves discipline.

Speaking for myself, yes. Exercise is an excellent way to build mental discipline and fortitude. Scientifically speaking it is for example the most effective cure for depression there is, and misery is one of the most powerful sources of inertia in existence.

50 million women: Wow this system is corrupt. All these people are paying women less than men. We need to fix this by getting a better position in the corrupt system instead of making a new one.

Wow that is so fucking smart you did it!

I wasn't good enough to quit it. I had to sell my computer, phone, and laptop.

Ah, you see, I know this. This is what I mean though when I say "sustained" positive change. I always lapse on keeping that structure and schedule together.

Just stop doing it. Every single time you watch porn you CHOOSE to do so. Stop making that choice and choose to so something else or even just choose to do nothing at all, cant watch porn if youre doing nothing.

>muh addiction

Thats literally how you quit anything youre addicted to. You have embrace feeling bored because thats why a lot of people fuck up. Porn can make other things in your life boring if you have an addiction.

t. quit smoking years ago and quit porn two months ago.

How is this even an issue? If you have any self-discipline at all it's as simple as just not watching it.

Then set a basic, yet concrete, goal that's easily obtained.
>What does user want?
To lose weight
>how is user going to do this?
Work out every Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8-10am. Do not be flexible on the date. Do not be late.

>date
day, whatever.

This is as ignorant as saying the same thing to a drug-addict or an alcoholic, and drugs and alcohol are addictions which have plagued civilization for millennia; even great minds like Coleridge and De Quincey were slaves to opium to the end of their days. Brain studies show that pornography is exactly like any other addiction.

>pornagraphy is exactly like any other addiction

No it bloody well isn't. Some (e.g. gambling) perhaps, but it's extremely misleading to equate porn with substances that people become physiologically reliant on. Abruptly quitting drinking can kill alcoholics. Can the same be said of porn? Of course not.

Porn is not the same as drug addiction. It can be psychiologically addicting but there is no subtance consumed, youre just elavting your dopamine levels and that is what youre addicted to. Video games can have the samr affect. Comparing the two is arguing in bad faith because alcohol can kill you from withdrawals if youre in too deep and quit cold turkey. Same with other hard subtances. Porn will not fucking kill you if you quit cold turkey even if you wank it 8 times a day.

>hurr durr it's not physiological so therefore it's a cakewalk

go back to r3ddit

this guy has the right idea. it's pretty much up to you to decide how you want to go about quitting something you've made a habit of. you need a way to actively choose to not do it.

youre the fucking reddit fag you idiot. great refutation of those points. Porn can be very psychologocally addicting and can affect your brain similarly to a drug. BUT IT IS NOT A FUCKING DRUG IT IS A FORM OF MEDIA AND IT IS NOTHING LIKE HEROIN OR ALCOHOL ADDICTION.

seriously go shoot up heroin everyday for a year and tell me that porn is the same fucking thing you absolute imbecile.

The process of addiction in the brain is identical in either case. Alcohol and methamphetamine have different ill effects on the body as such, but what they have in common is that they both function as creators of addiction. So too pornography. I would direct you to the studies on that web-page for proof.

so following that same line of logic lets say I am super addicted to video games. Are you going to tell me that my addiction is on the same level as meth? youre a nut if you think so because you cannot seperate an addiction of the body and an addiction of the mind so easily. The process of the mindful part of addiction might be similar but hard drug facilitate a much more three dimensional hold on the individual. Again, go do coke every day for a year and then quit cold turkey and tell me that quitting porn is the same thing.

Both video games and pornography have utterly ruined lives. They have been the cause of anxiety, of chronic depression, of suicides, of the wasting of decades upon decades of time, sometimes of entire existences, of the destruction of families; the latter will often induce a plethora of disgusting and distressing paraphilias, as well as erectile dysfunction, so as to make a normal relationship with a woman impossible. It is fortuitous that the direct effects they have on the body as a whole are not so bad as those of alcohol or drugs, I will own that much, but that does not diminish the harm they do. In some ways pornography is much harder to stop than alcohol or drugs. It is always within the instantaneous reach of anybody with a computer or a smartphone, whereas you can make an effort to keep a physical distance between yourself and tangible substances.

pretty much this is why its arguably as bad as meth. want to avoid meth? dont talk to drug dealers

want to avoid porn? there really is truly no way other than sheer willpower because its all over the internet. at least back in the day you had to walk into an adult film store

No, it's not physiological therefore it's not identical to every other addiction. Don't be an idiot on purpose.

Still not identical. Porn addiction is A. Alcoholism is A + B.

>you had to walk into an adult film store
And now you have to navigate to a URL. You don't just get porn shoved down your throat as soon as you turn your computer on.

what is it with redditors and thinking that just because a addition isnt physiological it doesn't matter? I see a lot of you degenerate weed smokers use this logic

>MOOOOM I can stop weed any time I want
>*never stops smoking weed*

What is it with morons that they think everyone who disagrees with them is a redditor and a stoner without any reason to assume either?

t. assblasted redditeur

>quitting porn
>browsing Jow Forums
I don't think you can do both at once.

To go to a URL requires less effort than it does to put your shoes and socks on. Drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol you can refuse to stock in your house, and when the compulsive urge to use them comes at three in the morning when you are lonely and alone they are not going to be anywhere near so ready at hand and easily accessible.

but if they don't want to stop why would they make the choice to prove that they can?

but if they never stop how can they say that a non-physical addiction isn't as bad when they've never demonstrated quitting?

fair enough, you can't prove something without evidence. i guess people dont think there's a point to proving that they can quit something if it's for no reason other than to convince a handful of people that they can do it, so they never try. though, i'd probably agree that the majority of people couldn't properly deal with an addiction on their own

>less effort
Yes. 2 is less than 5 but that doesn't mean 2 is 0. Accessing porn requires you to actively seek it out - it's not unavoidable as you suggested.

haha like nigga just step away from the keyboard lmao
