Hey anons. I'm making crosses for the patrilineal heritage of members in my church. I've got most of them taken care of, but I am a little baffled at what is considered the national cross for the French. So far I've made the Italian Cross, the Gallic Cross, and the Lithuanian Cross. I'm stumped on what would be the best for the French though. Any suggestions would be highly welcomed. Pic related is the clay makings that will be the basis for the moulds I make. They'll be made of pewter.
The French National Cross
I found this. However, after looking into the cross itself I've found it to be the Cross of Lorraine. I'm not certain that it would be the best choice and am looking for other suggestions.
please post pics of your moulds too user, whats your process
if you like crosses, give the ruthwell cross a google, its an interesting one, though not really in line with what youre making
make an angus dei cross, and maybe an orthodox one
Do the cross that is in equal length for all the sides, and has a -| at the end
>orthodox
>france
A lot of people would say the Cross of Lorraine, but historically (pre-WWII) it's much more of a symbol of Eastern France/Lorraine or Lorrain speaking areas. The small Lorrain speaking region I live in also uses this cross as its symbol.
Currently only in the process of making the clay fixtures. The mould will come tomorrow. I'm making them out of plaster.
Thanks user.
Could you post the Angus Dei?
The orthodox ones might work if some of my members are Slavic. But I'm not sure atm. Gunna talk to the pastor tomorrow. See if he can give me a church register.
Also, any suggestions for English? French and English are by far the two most prominent ethnic patrilineal lines in my area.
I know. It's in my second pic, but I'm a little hesitant since it's so specific to a region.
Basically lay them out on a plank and box the sides. Fill the bottom with plaster, let it dry, then lay the clay fixtures atop with one end butt against a wooden side, fill again, let dry, and I have a mould. After that I cut the mould in half and then will have a workable mould. Since one of the sides will be level with a wooden wall I'll have a hole to pour the pewter into and then let them dry.
Pretty cool. Any suggestions for an Anglican cross?
I don't understand. Could you post a picture? Even a hand drawing/paint drawing to give me a visual?
can you pour pewter straight into plaster? You not going to use a rubber mould?
Im planning on doing something similar with pewter soon and i was hoping to skip the rubber stage. i only need a flat releif not a two part mould
Try one of these instead.
not sure to be honest. you get very different results if you search for anglican cross, church of england cross or anglo saxon cross. ill have a think.
Plaster is acceptable. I would rather rubber, but I don't have much money and spent a good portion on pewter bars and a workable small foundry. Pic related.
Captcha is a cunt rn.
have you ever seen the Ilkley Moor swastika stone, theres an identical one in Italy
kek. While I do like all the different swastikas and understand what it represents (cycles), I don't think the other folks in my church would appreciate it.
Then stop going to church
id probably use the white metal you can get at the Art store, i could melt that in a saucepan on a normal gas rink. i just wasnt sure if itd blow up if i used plaster, im guessing it has to be bone dry?
Here's your (you)
France should return to Gnosticism
interdasting.
tonight user i discovered that masonry is just mithraism and a cult to preserve proto indoeuropean religon
Yeah. This is gunna be my first time casting, but it should hold up.
>white metal
Gunna have to check that out.
I find Gnosticism to have interesting theology. Shame it was nearly completely stamped out.
Fleur de Lys
Thanks user.
What're you making?
Post pic please.
google it cunt
it was stamped out so brutally for a very good reason
this is the gnostic cross
good uck user, though id recomend a face shield or glasses at the very least.
What are the original 3 made of if youre casting for the first time?
Have you made moulds before ever? If you havent dont forget to make the key marks/registration dips - i forget the official name. you probably know this but just in case you dont.
be real interested to see the results, are you going to be posting on /diy/ too?
pligrim badges.
oh i saw that you said those in the pic were made of clay. i didnt read it properly.
id like to try silver clay one day but its a bit pricey
Pic related.
Cool. Looks a lot like one of the versions of the irish cross/white pride symbol.
I will for you user.
Checkd. Yup. The Irish/Gallic cross was wicked difficult. Took nearly 3 hours together with all the failures.
What denomination are you?
Mind posting a pic of what you have in mind for the badges?
Me too. I was thinking I'd go to a pawn shop for gold/silver at a decent price.
i havent got a particular idea yet im still at the pondering/research phase. but english medieval pilgrim badges are where i drawing inspiration.
Im not really a denomination, my nan was an irish catholic till she left, but the only church services ive been to are c of e for funerals and weddings and stuff. i dont go to church, i just wear a cross and like jesus. i like historical christian art of any denomination though.
What i like about metal clay is you can sculpt your item like normal clay then fire it and it stays the same but burns off the non silver/metal particles leaving you with a piece of jewellery. saves on mould making, not that ive used any yet
i look forward to seeing the progress on /diy/ thanks for an interesting post user. I have to go to bed, im gutted user, id like to have stayed up and chatted more
Good luck its a nice idea.
This is my first time making moulds.
I'm not worried though. Shouldn't be anything too crazy. Any suggestions on the cross?
one last idea, look at Tudor crosses for ideas for english crosses.
Shame. Good night user. You're a real human bean ya know?
Awesome I will. THanks user!
just beware of exploding metal/moulds because of heat/air bubbles/moisture ect. seriously wear safety specs, a few quid on amazon if you dont own any
Also, wont plaster have tiny air bubbles in it leading to a pockmarked surface ?
Fuck it. bed time , i will have to see you in /diy/ this is such an interesting cross section of subjects to me, but i have to get up in a few hours
I will. I'm a tradesman by craft. I have lotsa leather gear and some facial protection. I'll take plenty of pictures.
