It's a system of platforms which has quite a ways to go in order to become viable, yet any innovations which are "cutting edge" take time to develop properly. As for the monetary aspect, I see it as possible yet not probable that fiat currency banking institutions would deny service to "Alt-Tech" payment processors. They'll dictate any systems in which they can get their hands-on, especially if it will be a viable investment. If they do, then there still is cryptocurrencies, which are the monetary backbone of the decentralization movement.
