AHHH native Americans, probably the worlds #1 experts at torture and deception. They Rightly earned the title "Savages" for the extreme brutal tortures they did to captured enemies. "Indian giver" was a term used for someone who sold you and item then later wanted it back.
They had no roads, no technology beyond cave man levels, internal cruelty to their fellow man was unheard of at the time. This describes the "northern" Indians the south American ones were even worse.
We should all thank god each day that that the the common European diseases killed most native Americans.

Depends entirely on the tribe. There were dozens of tribes throughout the united states. Some of them like the Iroquois were pretty damned civilized others like the Apache or the Seminole were little more than bandits who survived by raiding white settlers and other Indian tribes.

The mound builders work has been carbon dated to be a much older culture than the savages called Indians. Mound builders made large societies with infrastructure and artwork as well as the mounds for which they are known. These mound builders lived in regions and there are few archeological studies that give evidence that they would battle the neighboring societies.
But along came the horse back savages that chose war over peace. It's a fact that the mound builders lived organized and peacefully.
By the 1200's the mound builders were all gone. Only the pow wow native Americans were left.

No more and no less peaceful as any other subsistence farming/hunting people ever. Which means to say, not particularly peaceful.
So long as you weren't near them, sure, they were peaceful and went on to sling arrows at deer and fuck and just exist. Because far as they would wager, you probably had about as much shit to steal as they had (bow, arrow, occasional shiny shell or rock, collection of pretty feathers, and a couple meals of meat or gathered berried ect; not worth dying over. Unless you proved to them you had something worth them stealing, like Comanches when they'd see another tribe's horse. That sure worth the risk.
Until you came into their turf. Then they'd want you dead. They'd steal your shit if they thought you were a weak punk. Same as any tribal ever. It's what humans do.
There's literally nothing special about Indians. They're shitbags. They were comparatively technologically primitive shitbags. But they're shitbags in the same way all humans are shitbags. So what greater amount of pity do they deserve for losing? Not a great lot really.
