Well the system is using google streets. Basically the program is looking for white lines on a road. So it first reconize that the white lines are indeed on a road by looking at the color and texture of the object and matching it with other known roads. From there the "ONLY" is long enough for the system to mistake it as a just white lines in a crosswalk then a words written on the road.
same thing happens to "busses" when there's just a tuck or an SUV and there's no bus for you to choose.
