For any Americans (or foreigners) trying to figure out how the fuck this works with the First Amendment:
Back in the 70s, several Arab countries embargoed Israel after the Yom Kippur War, and part of that embargo was that the participating countries would refuse to do business with any foreign firm that also did business with Israel.
In response, in 1977 the US passed several laws to the effect that American companies were not allowed to participate in foreign-run boycotts. The intent of the laws -- which was clearly stated at the time -- was to protect American companies from being strongarmed by foreign governments, since they could always say "well I'd love to boycott the Zionist entity Abdullah, but gosh Uncle Sam just won't let me". Sure, let's not be silly, it also helped Our Greatest Ally, but the reasoning was sound and companies were still free to do business or not with whoever they liked.
What's going on with the new anti-BDS laws is that they remove the element of intent from the standing laws: since some foreign nations and organizations (including declared terrorist orgs) are boycotting Israel, any American who boycotts Israel is *assumed* to be participating in this "foreign boycott".
