Not really, I mean yes it does try to cover as much as possible and expand your comfort zone as much as they can but you do get specific styles and specialisations coming out of students, particularly the younger twenty-somethings who actually have ambitions for careers in things like illustration (like me), animation, graphic design etc. rather than the baby boomers who are past their time and just attend because they like art and want to learn.
I happen to be pretty exceptional when it comes to drawing and stuff, aware of how arrogant this'll sound but I'm pretty damn gifted in that field and I have a great work ethic too, so I think both talent palette and networking. I'm looking at the top universities in my country, and I'm already meeting very talented folks my age looking to do the same sort of thing. There's a guy who wants to publish his own comics, like myself, so there's that. For a lot of folks though I think it is just going the ringer and winging it after four years of uni work; some of them have vague ideas of their destination whilst others have more specific ideas including WHERE they wanna work eventually.
Yeah, I saved up several grand for it when I was still young enough for it to matter, back when it was not a common operation, and the doc told me he didn't think he could do a good job of it and turned me away.

I grew up with a guy who had a crazy talent for drawing and he was running one of the best strips in his university by the time he went and started to find his own style. I think it probably helped that he fell in with my group of friends when he was young, who were an unlikely collection of people all of whom shared a certain talent for off-the-wall humor.
