This desu. My dad told me that people used to sing republican songs and were sympathetic to the catholic majority seeing as they had been discriminated against by the protestants. Ironically the army originally went in to prevent protestant violence but of course the situation was escalated by a combination of both sides. Most British people hate all the paramilitary groups who were involved in the Troubles.
