Ending immigration is literally politically impossible without solid control of the government for that period of time. Otherwise the next government will just open the doors and then some to "compensate". What needs to happen first is subversive changes within the departments which make immigration/asylum harder, and the elimination of the social/economic attractors which draw in immigration. Once these work their way through the departments and become ingrained, only then should the larger moves be considered.
