this 100%. sounds like a nice idea on paper, in reality it always fails. The scariest thing is most people who advocate for socialism don't understand why each revolution failed, they just think it will magically work out. By most measures objective or otherwise the people who push for it today are lesser men than the ones who failed yesterday. If you read Witness by Chambers he documents how communists had infiltrated high levels of government and industry, you don't see pure red commies doing anything of that caliber today.

You're right -- after years of successful and rapid economic growth, they were bankrupted the moment they adopted capitalist reforms. Lots still have lower GDP per capita than in 1989 under communism (Ukraine, Moldova, Tajikistan, etc). Capitalism is such a pathetic economic system -- can't even live up to its one promise/justification.
