It's probably connected to some other gene with an evolutionary advantage. Like a lower resting heart rate or a slight resistance to some sort of disease or something for whatever reason. On a long enough timeline it would be selected for.
There are obvious connections and non-obvious connections. For the former, look at baldness, for example. It doesn't seem to have any advantage at first blush, but there seems to be correlation between genes for baldness and genes connected to vitamin d deficiency. The general idea being that in colder climates, where the head is effectively the only exposed area of skin, less hair = more skin surface area exposed to the sun = more vitamin D = on a long enough timeline, selection for baldness.
On the other hand, in the latter case, consider the "Gay uncle hypothesis", wherein women with gay relatives seem to have more children than those without. This suggests there's some sort of boost to fecundity in females connected to the genes correlated with homosexuality which is why they persist.
