In regards to the USSR I think people on Jow Forums are generally very sheltered, they have very little understanding of the material conditions of Russians before and after the revolution. To be sure, in the USSR people were not rich, but money doesn't just fall out of the sky, wealth needs to build over time. At the time of the revolution, Russia was a medieval-tier country that had just ended serfdom in the fucking 1860s, had a literacy rate in the teens and a life expectancy of 35--during Stalin's time, literacy was at or above 99%, and life expectancy had doubled to over 65. Regardless of your political beliefs, communism allowed Russia to expand in 10 years as much as capitalist countries had expanded in 100 years, and Stalin turned a rural backwater with the same GDP as Brazil into a global superpower with a space program.

In addition to this, things like the Holodomor simply did not happen, there is no evidence and it's all made up, do you really trust Ukrainians? In regards to the gulags, they're hugely exaggerated, people like Solzhenitsyn say there were millions of people interned in concentration camps right up to the final days of the USSR. Did these people just vanish into thin air when the USSR collapsed? Did they vapourize as soon as the iron curtain was lifted because they were too overjoyed by the presence of the free market, which caused wages to fall by 40% in Russia and other ex-Socialist Republics within one year of abandoning socialism?

You should all be careful not to just wholeheartedly accept propaganda about these people, who attempted to try a different system free from (((finance capitalism))) and experienced both some successes and some failures. There are things we can learn from them!

Even if we were to make the enormous and baseless claim that the enormous upswing in industrialization, GDP, living standards etc. in Russia following the revolution was purely a coincidence, it is at least proof that communism works, otherwise they would've experienced a decline instead.

None of this invalidates what I'm saying, I never argued that Russia had no industrial capacity before the revolution, only that it was greatly expanded following the revolution and that average people saw much more of the fruits of their labour, in the form of access to social institutions, education, heatthcare etc and this is reflected in the improvements made to their living conditions--their literacy rate, life expectancy and so on.
