Aside from the Medicaid expantion, the ACA is conservative legislation by nature. The individual mandate requires personal responsibility for people buying their own health insurance instead of going to the emergency room with no insurance and the bill being footed by the taxpayer.

Nurses and junior doctors are underpaid and overworked in the NHS because the otherwise the NHS would go bankrupt. UK also relies on immigration for medical staff such as India because they don't mind moving to UK and getting a solid career, even if it's overworked and unpaid. Overall, the NHS isn't effective and needs way too much public funding and should be privatised to create competition and increase its effectiveness.

No, the level of alcohol consumption in the UK is a cultural phenomenon, not a mental health one. There is a pub within 2 minutes walking distance of anyone living in any town, city or village, not to mention nightclubs in all towns and cities. Drinking alcohol is a choice and people who become drunks are using it to avoid confronting their personal problems and avoid taking responsibility for their lives. Start up a side business in the evening after work to help pay the mortgage faster, pay for nicer holidays etc, or go to pub and spend all of ones disposible income of 5 pints? Most in the UK choose the latter option.

When I was in France, I noticed that there was a push of Homeopathic medicines in their pharmacies and doctors were advertising "homeopathic practices" on some of the doors.
