The fear is because vaccines do not work 100% of the time. Reading an article a few years ago the success rate of vaccines is like 90%. So around 10% of vaccinated people are not actually protected for various reasons even though they received the vaccine. So if you have an infectious disease you can potentially spread that disease to others even if they are vaccinated for it. As herd immunity lessens those 10% (which aren't going to know) become vulnerable to diseases that were once considered extinct or close to.
The main reason that people like you are a problem is that herd immunity is an integral part of making a disease extinct in society. If we're talking about stopping the spread of an infectious disease in a population you need to ensure that enough people are immune to the disease that every person with a disease on average infects less than one other individual. This means that if an infected individual enters the population the result might be a small flair up of the disease but one that it will burn itself out in short order. In the best case the disease will effectively burn itself out and become extinct. (This is what we're trying to do today with the vaccines against polio and measles. We did this with smallpox and so we no longer vaccinate against this disease as it is basically dead in nature and the only ones that need vaccines are those that may come in contact with it in a laboratory environment.) This strategy doesn't require every vaccinated patient to become immune but rather enough people to reach the break even point where continuous transmission in the population stops. The number needed to reach this point depends on how infectious the disease is. (Measles and chickenpox are very infectious and thus have the highest requirements on efficacy of the vaccine.)

The real issue is that not everyone is vaccinated. Some kids have compromised immune systems or allergies that mean the usual vaccines would injure or kill them. These kids are normally protected by herd immunity -- they don't catch these diseases because everyone around them is vaccinated so there is nobody to spread it to them.
When you only have a few kids who aren't vaccinated for medical reasons, that all works out. But when parents start sharing FUD with each other about vaccines being harmful, the number of unvaccinated kids goes way up. In communities where this is prevalent, we are starting to see outbreaks of measles.
