I've traveled in Latin America and without fail every sizeable group (four or more people) of Europeans I met traveling there had been robbed at gun/knife point at some time during their trip. It was astounding. I'm a blonde haired white man, I stuck out in the crowd to say the least, but I had sense enough not to go down blind alleys to buy cocaine from some barrio rat. The Swiss, Britons, French, and Irish I met? Not so much. I can only attribute this to having to deal with non-whites in the city on a daily basis, whereas these people were more sheltered. This was five years or so back, maybe it's changed for Europeans in that time but they just didn't seem to be able to recognize the danger of their environment.
