Cutting out soda (and all other naturally and/or artificially sweetened drinks) is good, but as a next step you probably need to focus on cutting out grains. They're the biggest carbohydrate source for a lot of people.

Look into low carb / ketogenic diets, and try intermittent fasting. When you do eat, try to eat "paleo" type foods. Eventually you should get a sense of what works best for you.

It's cheaper to eat healthy. The problem isn't affording a decent diet its learning how to cook. You can eat healthy on 1.50 a day here in America if you know how to cook and what to cook.

I've been intermittent fasting for 4 months now. I've never felt better and have overcome some mystery illness/ailment I had that no one could diagnose related to my blood sugar.

I'm convinced it's the way we humans were meant to live -- eating 1 to 2 times per day in a tight and regular window.

I fasted for 7 days in an attempt to get rid of my psoriasis, it didn't work but fasting is easier than fat makes make ut out to be, after the first 24-48 hours it's easy, you also have to drink electrolyte water(water + sodium and potassium) or you have NO energy

They define “soft dry fast” as being able to drink water and juice, aka not fasting because you are breaking the fast with juice.

Unlike normal IF in the article (all hyperlinked to studies and other articles) this is sourceless and fantastical.

Also, drinking cold water burns more fat because your body can’t use cold water and has to expend energy to heat it up.

I fast for around 23 hours every day. Feels good. When I see someone eating breakfast or lunch because they're "starving, god I haven't eaten in 3 hours!", I lose a lot of respect.

The longest fast I had was about 80 hours--3 days plus a night of sleep after. It was more annoying than anything. I found more long-term success by still eating, just drastically cutting calories.
I lost 23lbs by just having very little on weekdays (300-1000 calories, nearly all protein/fat) and still haven't gained it back. When you're on that for long enough you stop having cravings for the most part and can feel perfectly fine without much intake.
Going a few days at a time with little/no calorie intake was totally normal for much of human history.

I used to fast regularly when I was a teenager/young adult. I was inspired by the book Siddhartha, and got very into Buddhism and fasting. The longest I ever went without food was about 2 weeks. I did find that it gave me incredible mental focus, and it was far easier to enter into a meditative or trance-like state.

I still do intermittent fasting more days than not. I do not recommend it as a weight-loss tool, at all. If this is your mindset, you will simply not make it. You will try, and fail. It's also an extremely dangerous and ineffective way to lose weight. You must have something deeper than vanity driving you.

I recommend fasting as a means for people to reach greater spiritual enlightenment, no matter the faith - Christian, Buddhist, Muslim - all have a tradition of fasting and self-abnegation. It can also lead to making better lifestyle choices in general... it could be a good way to cure an addiction to drugs, alcohol or sex. "All or nothing" can sometimes be easier.

As far as the actual experience goes, you will only feel hungry for the first 2-4 days. After that, you may feel hungry from time to time, but it will no longer register to your consciousness as something that "matters". You will eventually become quite weak and dizzy, and it is advisable to avoid physical exertion. Be sure that you prepare adequately beforehand, so that you have a safe place to rest during your fast. Once you've gone over a week without food, it will be quite difficult to move and you will want to sleep a lot more than usual. You will most likely want somebody to check on you periodically, just in case something bad should happen.

I recommend starting off with a shorter fast of only a few days, in order to acclimate yourself. Then, if you like it, gradually increase the duration. Do not start with a fast of 2 weeks. And do not fast for more than a week or two unless you absolutely know what you are doing... it is absolutely possible to die from this.

I tell people who are on their first fast to try an apple fast (only eat apples) or a grape juice fast.

Best things to do whilst fasting:
- Read (especially inspiring or spiritual books)
- Meditate
- Sleep
- Take a short walk... around the backyard, garden, etc. Do not go far and do NOT attempt to operate a motor vehicle.
- Bask outside in the sun or clouds

Do not take drugs, watch trashy movies, or play video games, if you can avoid it. This defeats the entire purpose.... physical, mental and spiritual cleansing. Like a Reset button for your entire life

I eat breakfast and lunch everyday, then skip dinner. I do this until Friday night, which I then have a glass of wine as my dinner. On the weekend I feast on rich stews and roasted meats. My health has been amazing doing this.
