Indulging in increasingly esoteric and inwardly directed projects rather than truly challenging the establishment. Many retreated to religious obscurism. Others spiraled into the occult or the overly academic or any other form of social criticism that would allow them to oppose the prevailing social order without posing a genuine threat to it.

To answer your question, I think internet atheism was a general 'fuck you dad' to societal norms in the early 2000's, when the web was mostly a underground place. Nowadays every normie and their mom is on the internet which is why most websites are filled with boring garbage. Also I think the internet is still very libertarian compared to irl, it's just that populism is naturally overrepresented by virtue of what it is. Most of Jow Forums isn't even National Socialist, they just echo chamber the hardest.

Mostly Social Justice. SJWs love big government telling other people what to do because they are stunted children who want a parental figure to take care of them. Hence Libertarianism is bad. They also love Muslims and Atheism is naturally counter to all religion when it is practiced correctly and in a SJW world you can't criticize Islam. Hence Atheism is bad.
