Modern music industry is a fabricated market - because making a star through marketing is way easier than finding and managing real talent.
It's a market where its consumers don't have any real connection to the product besides the act of consumption. So its consumers have no real value in it besides the act of consumption itself and letting the world know that they consume (what's popular and falling to the falacy that this equals popularity for themselves).

Or maybe I'm just getting old and I'm sliding into the habit of old people of condemning pesky teens and their shitty music.
But even then it must be the first time in history that this happens because their music feels too safe, too uninspired and too samey.

The ones really paying for music are the metalheads - that's why you see those albums being put up on youtube for free with a link to the shop that's usually a smaller but well doing business and all the big labels are currently weeping over declining sales.
Also true for a few other genres - but you have to respect metal people keeping their niche alive since the 70s.
