All great civilizations have eventually met their doom and many of these civilizations have died at their own hand. Do traditions just emerge from the ether, bereft of reason or are they the result of people encountering hardship and navigating difficulties? The most prosperous societies and people within society tend to be better able to spread their ideas, traditions, and culture. People with shit cultures, ideas or traditions tend to be less able to spread their ideas on the aggregate because they die or live in destitute conditions. Navigating problems related to dire poverty forces you to develop efficient mindsets and modes of being, which can ultimately lead to societal ascendency.
Social progress is really just social entropy, or the deterioration of social norms. It’s fueled by hedonistic desires and short term thinking; hedonistic thinking is only viable when you live in a somewhat prosperous society, divorced from true hardship. “Social progress” is not the result of some process where people are forced to adopt more efficient modes of being; its the result of dictates made by the ruling elite and activist types. Social decline manifests itself as a lose of societal cohesion, the death of the family, the emergence of societal suicidal tendencies, complacency, infighting, and polarization. Technological progress masks the effects of social entropy, but there will come a day when true hardship will return. When we inevitably encounter true hardship, you’ll begin to appreciate the utility of the social structures and traditions that led to our societal ascendency.
Social entropy will continue until all of society unravels or a traditionalist authoritarian movement/leader re-emerges.
