The IDW is a slightly edgy ( by mainstream standards ) product designed to be a ripoff of what the alt right generally represents. It helps keep the mainstream boat afloat by venting off interest in things like "race realism" or "sex realism" by keeping people in the mainstream mindset.
Left and Right pundits or ideologues genuinely dislike the IDW, but the IDW keeps their game intact. That's why the IDW gets lots of mainstream press and attention, and why IDW people can continue to have marketable careers.
