It did, but we have a different (read: unsustainable) conception of love now. Now a marriage is for the pleasure of the married, not for procreation and the building of a home.

The modern conception of love is one of those things that sounds nice, but produces disastrous consequences in practice.

Arranged marriages don't make sense for the average pleb or poor people. They're almost necessary where there is a large amount of inheritance, like a company, lots of buildings, cash, etc.
