What is the process in Canada? In the US with any government service there is pretty strict screening. Just to work as a Firefighter/Paramedic I had more background, more hours of uncomfortable conversations with a shrink and more written psych tests than my brother who has security clearance in the military.

Depends on where you are and the lifestyle you want. I thought about nursing but didnt like the hours. I bang alot of nurses at the hospital and techs.
They work 8/10/12. I work a 24. I get 4 and 6 day weekends and take up to 4 months off a year. Also its locale dependent. Average nurses is salaried at $75,000 where I am and medics $85,000. With our OT schedule it's easier to pull 24 of OT and go fuck off to Bali for a 2 week break than their peice meal 6 here and 12 there.
