They're called intrusive thoughts. They bother you because you know you would never do them. Lots of people have them, and they're pretty normal. If you start thinking you will act on those thoughts, seek therapy.

What do you mean by more context? I mostly want to do it when the pup lays itself on my lap. I killed my last dog (chihuahua) doing something to it and I don't want to make the same mistake again. It's starting to affect my work and I'm having arguments with my wife (she doesn't know but she senses something weird is going on with me) and I just don't know man

Go see a therapist immediately. You've already acted on it, and you need to work through it.

My wife will ask more questions if I get rid of the dog all of a sudden though; I was a little excited to get the second one after the first one died. I'll have to kill this one too but not in the manner I did the first one
