I agree it's kinda BS, because BC and AD are basically secular terms already. At least there's about 0% chance it'll cross over into layman usage. I've only ever seen this in the context of mya (million years ago), which is for convenience in disciplines that operate on that timescale (e.g. astronomy, geology, paleontology)

Two, they are inaccurate. Jesus of Nazareth was born sometime between 6-4 BCE and not in 1 CE /AD - the bishop that created the numbering system messed up the calculation.
