If the yellow vests show up armed, then it puts the military in a compromising situation: do we follow our orders and kill our fellow countrymen, even if we agree with their motives (there is no way that there aren't military personnel that support the yv), or do we defect and join them?
Almost always in the history of revolutions, when things get this far,v the latter becomes apparent, so long as the military still see themselves as french.

The thing most people don't seem to get is that if they ever served once, even as a reservist, they'll know the Armée de Terre is pretty much civilian-sided everytime. This is the very essence of their job, and god knows this job requires dedication. They won't start shooting the very people they sworn to protect, or switch sides because some rich/powerful fuck told them to.
This was possible the best time for the french to revolt, they stand a great chance now that it's frenchman against frenchman, instead of frenchman vs. Various middle-eastern EU drone.

This is a case where the morale is extremely low (in France especially but Europe broadly as well). Military caste is always inclined and based in tradition and rigidity - so they're more like to put down agitators who threaten legitimate authority, but their authority has been a sickness upon anything remotely associated with tradition, order, and their own nation/countrymen. I'll say this, despite fear of LARPing; part of me would be surprised if generals haven't exchanged words.
