Illinois, CA, Ohio, Penn, FL, NY, Delaware, MD, CT, Mass, RI, NJ all have comparable (or higher) density. Did you even read what I wrote ? I know railway companies still exist in the US, mostly for private freight. Actually it was president Nixon who made Amtrak a public (socialised) entreprise, but demanded it make a profit (final nail in the coffin of an already overextended network).
