This. The new USMCA increased the percent build requirement (ie products must be at least a certain percent produced in a USMCA country to get the benefit of USMCA) significantly. Interesting theory, but I doubt it will be a direct engagement, at least not at first. The build up of the Japanese Navy makes me think it will be primarily a Japanese-Chinese war at first with the US being the industrial muscle for the Japanese. I also don't think it will be a ground war, unless China tries to take the Japanese home islands. More than likely it will be a naval and aerial engagement in the Sea of Japan and South China Sea with virtually no US or Japanese ships willing to get within missile range of the mainland.
A great trigger would basically be a replay of the Gulf of Tonkin false flag, but with a Jap ship during "freedom of navigation" exercises (ie sailing through the draught of Taiwan or the South China sea). The loss of the ship will be engineered, and the proximity of the loss to China will be all the proof needed that the Chinese did it. The ship will likely be some Jap destroyer as a loss of an aircraft carrier or Aegis equipped cruiser would a) make the US and Japan navy look vulnerable and b) hurt the future war effort.
