Amerians' view on Vietnam War ?

What do you guys think about the war both general and personally ? I'm open-minded to every opinions. I lived in HCM city ( or Saigon), so I also appreciate very much if someone share their story about the pre-war period. Thanks :)

Born in 1997 but both my grandfathers were drafted. It seemed to leave a good deal of trauma amongst those who went I know both my grandfathers had what would’ve been considered PTSD today. I feel bad for the people of Vietnam had the Internet existed at the time and the Gulf of Tonkin Lie was uncovered it probably would have actually led to the street killing of LBJ.

grandfather fought there, grandmother is from vietnam
total waste of time, life and resources for everyone. i feel bad for the vietnamese and bad for the american soldiers who had to go there, esp. the ones who were drafted

Americans in the comment sections under the Vietnam War videos on Youtube seem to be unironically defending it.

Yes it was horrific. But from my view, younger generation and the ppl who live in the former Republic seems to actually support America. After the war life is pretty much very horrible. My grandfather and grandmother has to separate the children. Grandpa stays at Saigon and Grandma went to Rach Gia with 5 children (my uncle and aunts) to work in the flied so that they can have rice to eat (gov gave 1 kilo per family/month). Communists pretty much took all the land from former capitalist ( ppl who support old gov). I'm sorry if I cant make much sense.

Yes. Ironic isn't it.

Korea 2.0, with more bombs and blood. I think our intentions were spot on. We should have stuck it out and followed through, we were winning.

Yes, thank you. Hope the old folks are doing great :)

>younger generation and the ppl who live in the former Republic seems to actually support America
I also have heard that young Vietnamese are very pro-American, is it true?

It was a hard lesson to learn that if youre gonna consprict niggas its gotta be for a better "reason" it lead to the development of more proxy wars and new ways to use our toys

This is also a point that many ppl in Vietnan are making. But many also said it would divided our country like Korea.

Yes actually it is. Ppl in Vietnam actually hate communism and they agree that living under capitalism is much better

All of Vietnam would be a far wealthier nation if we had persevered and drove the communist out, why we didn't just invade north vietnam is beyond me.

Yes. The war will actually success if America hit us with economy. Vietnam economy was pretty wrecked after the war

Yes. This is the best solution, but sadly it wasnt came out at the time.

>Gay grandparents

Everyone has two grandfathers (from paternal and maternal side), amirite?

It was a pointless war for profit just like every war since WW1.
Those are the idiots who didn't live through it. There are plenty of stories of soliders being spit on as they came home. Remember that tons of men were simply drafted, they didn't enlist. They didn't have a choice. They were sent off to fight in the name of stopping communism. Pure propaganda.

Fighting wars 10 yeats after the amerixans left didnt help , also the whole regionn's economy dying in the late 80s

I think it was stupid but if we were gonna go to war we should’ve went all the way and not let faggot protesters decide when we pulled out. Gen z btw

>thoughts on Vietnam in general

LBJ is a faggot

>thoughts on it personally

Democrats are pussies for backing out of their problem they started and caused it to be egg on the US's face.

During the war, anyone with a brain went to college so McNamara had a really hard time drafting enough boys to fight the war. His solution was to lower the standards to allow literal retards to be drafted, and thats how they filled the ranks.

Nice check

Coincidentally theres a good lecture on this
Literally special forces

Look up Pentagon Papers.
The goal was a permanent war, not a won (or even a winnable) one.

Do you have any link

Same problem as today. War mongering while pretending to be the good guys. Just go all in or all out.

Yeah. Life goes on.
