Capitalism works in the sense that the ignorant, or, those who foolishly waste their time, money, and resources on frivolous things, will become poorer. When poor people complain about being poor, 99% of the time, it's their fault for not taking proper responsibility in life.

I always find it bizarre when people say that capitalism is amazing. We have higher rates of depression, suicide, serious addiction, and divorce than ever. We're concreting over nature at a terrifying rate and destroying wildlife so quickly that it'll be gone before most people even notice. Fundamentally capitalism is what has destroyed tradition and culture in our societies. If you're in a good situation and literally only give a shit about your immediate material interests then you might think capitalism is great, but if that's not the case then you're completely deluded. Things seem great because we have so much abundance and convenience, but it has to end at some point. At some point there will simply be either no room for growth or a huge economic, social, or natural crisis. Both of these scenarios will destroy capitalism, and those who desperately want to squeeze every last drop out of the earth and its people will do everything they can to keep it going, and it will be extremely unpleasant.

It's bizarre because at the cost of simply tempering our enthusiasm for material shit, we could genuinely be living great lives. The internet could be used for what its original intention was, not just for porn, shopping, and girls posting pictures of themselves online for attention. The fundamental inventions of our age have all come from people who are simply extraordinarily intelligent and want to discover and create. I don't think anything that's truly amazing was ever just created for profit.
