I have a theory that the opiate crisis in the US is being deliberately promoted by China. Do you think this could have any merit?

That's part of it, but a lot was self-inflicted by the US itself. Part of the war in Afghanistan involved a surge in opium production. The goal was to flood Iran and Russia with cheap heroin, thus weakening those nations. That happened, but it also created a supercharged heroin and opioid market in general which eventually flowed into the US itself.

meh it was really the 90s/2000s surge in "pain clinics" where you could go and get a script for percocets for basically nothing. tons and tons of people got hooked on pharmaceutical opiates and then had no choice but to switch to heroin when it was cracked down upon.
the heroin/fenta problem is usually framed as a 20s/30s problem, but in reality there are a ton of actual boomers and gen-xers in the 40-70 age bracket shooting up street dope because they lost access to their pills.
the only real treatment that works is to get people on vivitrol and force them to take it. none of the substitute opiates actually "work" in the sense that the people on them are still zombies on dope. I hope that vivitrol gets more common and a whole lot less expensive.

The only thing that works is cold turkey. I know that for a fact. Although once the pain of w/d is over you need to make sure you keep your mind occupied or you will find yourself buying again. That desire never really leaves, its always in the back of your mind. My advice, never touch an opiate.
vivitrol is like cold turkey +. It stops you from having future cravings and it also blocks the action of opiates so they don't work.
you have to detox before getting on it, but it makes quitting like 100x easier. It's also $1200 a month and a huge fucking scam because they force prisoners and parolees to get on it to make government bucks. But that shit works.
