i based it off the kingdom of navarre
Anthony Reyes
OK, but what would be the point of an independent Kingdom of Navarra? Navarra no longer has a king, and the foru system is gone. The only real basis for Navarrese "independence" would be Basque language, culture, and blood, in which case the western Basque regions would necessarily need to be included.
Not trying to be a jerk. Maybe just giving you some suggestions to improve your map.

Seems kind of pointless, and I can tell you that no Basque would like it.

spain's been a puppet state of france for years. distancing themselves from france by removing their border will help guarantee their sovereignty, and if france tries to invade navarre like germany did belgium in wwi spain along with other powers like britain will step in to maintain the balance of power

I'm not objecting to the logic of a Pyrenean "buffer state," I'm objecting to the logic of separating Basque populations in an arbitrary fashion.

You're arguing with an ethnic Basque, before you try to lecture me on the subject.
Navarra is the de jure homeland of Basques. Basquicists argue that the population we call Basques and which the Romans called the Vascones populated what is presently Navarra in antiquity and subsequently migrated westward in the historical period.
What your image demonstrates is the diffusion of the euskaldunak, meaning Basque-speakers. As with any ethnic group, not all members speak the language of their fathers but, by right of blood, belong to their ethnic group nonetheless. Hence the distinction between euskaldunak and what we call euskotarrak, i.e. ethnic Basques who don't speak Basque. All Navarrese fall into the euskotarrak and those who live along the foothills of the Pyrenees (like my family) are both eusotarrak and euskaldunak.
Lucas Hughes
actually makes sense. Southern france is basically italian and northern france is german. It's been a long time and things have doubtless merged but going back to the days of the frankish tribes migrating there has been an ethnic difference between north and south gaul. Really europe should bring back local governments, part of the reason the west became susceptible to globalism was that we started tolerating a form of nationalism that ignored and suppressed regional differences. To a lesser extent it happened in the US with states rights being eroded and their cultures being homogenized federally
