Oh yes, that is the great dilemma. It is entirely possible to create a moral ethical belief system that supplants religion and replaces it in the psychology of people, but to date nobody has even come close to succeeding. As you say; there are atheists such as myself that despise degeneracy and deviancy, but given the failure of the majority of atheists to not be degenerates is why I don't oppose religion in my life as a whole, only communicate the intellectual failures of religion to religious people individually.

Well what if religion is just overplaying the karmic result of actions? Like you said "God will smite me if I do X or curse my family etc is not actually because of God but because of Nature and Causality within it? Action, reaction. If you do a gesture of selfless kindness it's possible the person it was direct at will do it someday too.

Religion on the other hand uses karmic punishments as persuasion. e.g "If you don't follow the monarchy you don't believe in God", "if you don't do what X said, you're a heretic and will burn forever", "If you don't behave X you'll get sent to hell or your life will be ruined"

You'd do well to first actually understand atheism before you start arguing.

Atheist comes from the greek theos (god) and the prefix a which means not, loosely translated as 'without gods'. In modern usage theist means someone who believes in the existence of god and atheist is someone who is not a theist. This nuance actually matters because in order to be an atheist you simply need to lack belief in the existence of a god, you do not have to explicitly hold a position that no gods exist. The difference between these positions is commonly referred to as weak and strong atheism, and it turns out when you ask atheists most of them identify as weak atheists.

Weak atheists are not making a primary assertion (claim) and so have no burden of proof. A strong atheist however would deny the existence of gods and so does have a burden of proof for their claim.

Atheism is not a religion by any classical definition of the term. Nor does it serve any purpose to try and gerrymander the term, it's purely a semantic argument, even if you could get atheists to agree that atheism is a religion it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to what people actually believe.

"Agnostic" and "Atheist" are two different things. Agnostic means you don't know if there's a god or not (ie that you can't prove it), and atheist means you don't believe that there are any, whether you can prove it or not. You can be an agnostic atheist, or a gnostic atheist, or an agnostic theist, or a gnostic theist, although anyone who claims to be gnostic is a fucking retard automatically unless you're talking about specific religions which have made specific claims and you're an atheist pointing out the disproofs.
