That is the dark side of so called first world countries like Germany. The average European barely makes enough to live and can't even afford to emigrate.

I have a job and a BSc in statistics. I graduated during the height of the financial crisis, didn't get hired out of uni and then had to take whatever I could get to survive. Now my degree doesn't even matter anymore because I've been working shitty jobs I'm overqualified for for so long.

Rotisserie chickens are sort of a "loss leader" in supermarkets. The margins on them are extremely slim, but they get people in the door, and those folks will buy extra shit like potato salad (at a huge markup) or refrigerated soda at the checkout counter (again, huge markup). My local Walmart sells rotisserie chickens for about $4. It's my go-to Jow Forums meal. I just prepared sides ready to go at home.
I understand the concept, it's upsale.
I enjoy it though.

I’m going through the exact same thing, I’m working as a mid level “consultant” for an automotive, essentially I’m just a software engineer that is outsourced. I make around 50k euros before tax a year (depending on how well SEK is doing). I have a car and a box apartment, there are no other apartments available even if I want to spend more... the waiting list is literally ten years now for a rental unless you get a “second hand contract” which is essentially paying someone more money than they pay to rent from a company at the government regulated rate.
In countries like Germany, France, and Scandinavia, Ireland, and to a lesser extent Great Britain. Tax is around 45-55% of GDP, they are taxing more than half from us in some cases. That’s not just income tax but every purchase, every transaction is deducted, and there’s also a wealth tax, so those making over 35k euros a year enjoy paying additional taxation, and it’s increased all the way up to 90% the more you earn (of course the rich aren’t actually paying this).
To buy a house you need wealthy parents, it’s a 20% down payment, and even a shack in the woods nearish to a city with jobs is 200k euros, an actual house is almost 500k in the suburbs.
After tax I get 2600 euros a month from 50k a year/a little over 4K a month (once again, remember I pay 25% tax on everything I buy). I come out flat every single month, I feel like a literal slave and I cannot see the point in living at all... I can make near enough the same laying asphalt or working in retail why am I stressing myself out with a migraine inducing desk job that’s extremely bad for your health?
The absolute worst part is that Swedes are even more subservient than Germans or Anglos, they’re a literal slave people who are convinced in school that we are superior to all other countries and that THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE IN THE WHOLE WORLD, all other countries are stupid but us and our socialism!
It always amuses me when Europeans realize just how much better Americans have it in terms of cost of living. Much of what most Europeans consider luxuries are considered bare minimums of acceptability to even the poorest of Americans. It is a culture shock that you can see in the divide between rural and city living Americans as well, but the difference is just magnified several times over when comparing the average American lifestyle to the average European.
