I read the verse in context over and over. First of all, this is Jesus himself talking, not some old testament bullshit.

He's talking to a Samaritan woman. She says that her ancestors worship a place on the local mountain, and asks Jesus if he's saying they should worship a place in Jerusalem instead.

Jesus says that "you worship what you don't understand, while we Jews worship what we do understand, for Salvation is from the jews". And then he goes on to say that this is all changing, and from now on everyone will worship God in the spirit. She responds that the messiah will explain all this once he arrives. Then he says that he is the messiah.
