I have a sneaking suspicion it is. Take the attached gif for example. This was supposedly from a shoot boxing match in the 50's. Does that look like something that really happened on its own without planning? I'm guessing maybe boxing hasn't been exposed like wrestling because there's too much mobster money tied up in it. All that gambling when the outcome is probably already known to certain people must be a hell of a racket.

All professional sports have sometimes been rigged. Some more than others. NFL, NBA it's obvious. MLB was bad in the early 1900's.
Boxing and MMA, it depends. Some fights were blatantly rigged where the fighters are in on it. Some fights were "influenced" where the fighters weren't in on it, but maybe one of the guys only had 3 weeks to train for the fight and the other guy had 3 months (this was on purpose).
Some fights were definitely real. Real hand to hand combat is exciting in itself and that will sell.
