I think a retrial is more likely than not. This was a high profile case, and the judge pronounced his belief in the defendant’s guilt at the beginning of the trial proceedings. This judge denied a change of venue for a contentious, high profile case. Fields was also not allowed to use the lawyer of his choice.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the appeals court vacates the conviction and he’s retried in a separate jurisdiction a year or two from now. I certainly hope so.
