I think there's a certain "high" one gets when doign something they know they shouldn't. When your deeds are so heinous as this, such as pedophilia, it probably comes from a long history of previous escalating deeds. So like drugs the high becomes harder and harder to attain at its peak again, so people who are susceptible to addictions become enslaved to the desire for attaining that high, just 'once more'.
