I work fast food and accidentally spoke out of turn. I usually keep cool whenever customers give me an attitude, but it's been a hard week since some of our equipment broke down and tons of customers are getting mad we can't make them any smoothies. I work cashier/drive through so I've been getting cussed out by customers every day about not having smoothies despite us having a sign outside saying that we can't give out smoothies for awhile. So today I greeted a customer and he cut me off mid sentence and he started announcing his order. I asked him if he wanted those as combos and he said "whatever" so then I proceeded to ask them what size and he said "whatever" again and I asked if small was okay he started telling me what drinks he wanted and I asked him if the order was correct on the screen and he drove up to the window without saying anything. I told him the total at the window and he handed me a credit card without looking at me. I asked him what kind of sauces he wanted and said honey mustard without looking at me. I handed him his food and told him what was in each bag before handing it to him and once he got his food he drove off then a minute later to tell me I did his order wrong. ( I gave him the wrong side item) . I apologized since it was my fault for not reading the order to him before taking his payment. He originally ordered a small portion of a side item so I told him that I will upgrade it to a large for his troubles. He didn't even look at me during this whole time so I took the bag back before he can take it from me. I lashed out and told him "You could at least look at me." He asked for my name and I showed him my nametag. He leered at me and drove off. I feel like I'm going to get fired. I gave him a receipt so he can probably tell cooperate about my actions.
This is the first time I ever got emotional with a customer.
Nothing will happen more than likely. Turnover is so high at places like that that you'll at least get a warning before they boot you. If you show up on time and don't steal and aren't high you're a catch as far as mcdonalds or wherever is concerned. When I worked at home depot one time I made this guy so angry with my surly attitude that he was yelling at our help desk guys about how rude I was. When my supervisor came over and asked me what happened I said I didn't know and that was the end of that lol. What you've described sounds like a pretty minor incident. Anyone in customer service is going to have a bad day eventually.
Logan Nelson
don’t worry. everyone can have a bad day, maybe his was even worse than yours. he’ll either forget about it or decide that he doesn’t give a shit about reporting you.

holy fuck i hate customer service so much
It honestly seems like the average customer has become ruder in the last 2 years. I can't believe the shit some of these retards do/say. What would make somebody act like that? Ridiculous
You're fine though that guy won't even do anything, if he does your manager won't care. This shit happens to me constantly and disgruntled customers rarely follow through because they were usually in the wrong to begin with
There should be a policy that if a customer has a shitty attitude they should expect shitty service.
I wouldn't worry at all OP. By the length of your story I was expecting you to have actually done something particularly bad. That being said I do similar work and have done far worse and have yet to receive a single write up or have my manager fail to back me up.
Logan Foster
I feel like the rise of politically correct and anti-discriminatory speech has redirected a heap of irrational hatred elsewhere, towards people whose job it is to make sure customers get what they want. It's now unacceptable to frown upon or speak down to a minority (as it should be) but people are finding new ways to assert themselves.
Nathan Campbell
>It's now unacceptable to frown upon or speak down to a minority (as it should be)
I find this mentality so fucking annoying. A lot of minorities are stupid cunts who need to be yelled at, but nobody will do it and so these stupid assholes never correct their behavior
Italians got lynched and spit on when they got to America, and they got with the program quickly.
Mexicans are BY FAR the worst customers I deal with at my job. They're so fucking rude, I just look at their last name and know that there's an 80% chance they are going to be a condescending nasty cunt
I honestly hope people start lashing out at minorities more, they deserve it. White boomers too, to be fair
Dominic Rivera
Yeah, people just act like complete shitheads under the pretense of being a, "Paying customer".
Anything they can lord over you, I suppose.
Pretty sad if you have to take your frustrations out on a McDonalds employee if you ask me. Not sure you're in a better place if that's the best use of your time.

How are people not embarassed to be sperging out on customer service workers
Do they walk away like "Oh yeah I fucking showed that asshole!!!"?
Totally insane. I cannot imagine the future of this country with so many unhinged lunatics occupying it
Brody Powell
It happens to literally everyone. And it's well understood some customers are pieces of shit. "I was having a shitty day and he was just being so difficult and I lost myself for a second" will get you right out of trouble especially if this is a never occurence for you.
Their opinion of you isn't going to flip on its head..
Colton Watson
You know how op was saying he was having a bad day and lost control?
Sperging on restaurant workers is the behaviour of someone having a bad life. And they just *need* to feel someone is below them.
James Lee
OP lost control on somebody who was aggressively attacking him though
These lunatics are attacking people who are (literally) minding their own business
If this continues, I honestly think workers should start campaigning for a new policy of being able to treat bad customers with bad customer service. This is getting absurd
Levi Mitchell
I wasn't humanising them. We agree they're awful. But im saying that's it. Just from living my life and watching friends even turn into this (and recover). No one happy does this.
Strongest correlation was people in shit relationships.
Jackson Flores
oh yeah for sure
Thomas Perry
You will be fine, op.
I had a coworker at one of my earliest jobs (Sears) get called a faggot because he couldn't return a car stereo that we never carried, the customer didn't have a reciept, a box, or even some kind of date for us to check his purchase just in case.
My coworker proceeded to pick up an old school credit card press, spit in the customers face, and try to brain him with it. Me and another guy had to pull him off the customer and the manager told the customer to leave all the while my coworker was raging and screaming about how he was gonna beat the customer bloody and rape him so that he would have to tell everyone how a 'faggot' wrecked kicked his ass then made him taste his own shit.
Yeah he got fired, but it was a great way to go. He got fired from his next job at a burger King for stabbing a rude customer with his name tag.

the amount of reddit in this thread is making me want to throw a hissy fit
David Barnes
That dickhead customer is lucky thats all you did. The customer is always right? The customer is always an asshole.
>slim shady working at burger king spittin on your onion rings
Connor Morris
I'm sure you'll be fine
Carson Evans
Cheer up, lil autist
Anthony Perez
people who claim everything they don't like is onions are the real basedboys
As everyone else has said, you're going to be fine OP. Remember these 3 things: >Only unhappy people treat people that way >If your job punishes you for telling a customer they could at least acknowledge you for being polite, then hey, you don't need that job >Coworkers make bad customers worth it My boyfriend used to work at home depot, seems like you guys could get away with a lot more than other customer service jobs because you get tons of foreigners/people who are desperately pretending they know how to do home repair. >I honestly hope people start lashing out at minorities more, they deserve it. White boomers too, to be fair Agreed, white boomers are always the worst customers I've had to deal with.
Being in customer service reading these replies and remember how terrible people are truly boils my blood. Drive thrus are the fucking scum of the earth. Never again.
Nolan Miller
>Mexicans Working food service in Florida, I could not agree more. Holy fuck I hate Mexicans.
Andrew Howard
its ok user, most humans are pigs and props to you for dealing such a dick. this is why i try to be extra nice when ordering food.
the most you're gonna get is a warning, if that. don't worry about it, you didn't call him a nigger or anything
Carson Long
I doubt it's a big deal (because who would care), but you could always translate it to something else. You say "I asked if he would look at me for a second so we could figure out the order", they'll think it's the less exaggerated version of whatever he said.
You know in jobs where you bring some skills that you've taught yourself you don't have to mess with people. If I don't like something their problems wont be getting solved, not in 6 months, not ever. They'll be dealing with the inconvenience for the next decade. On the flip side I'll fix things that have been broken for 10 years.
