I was "depressed" as a teenager due to childhood trauma experienced while growing up. I cut myself on two separate occasions probably 6 times all up. I can tell you now as a much wiser human that it was purely for attention. My parents already knew I was "depressed" and "anxious" yet I craved the attention so bad I continued to worsen, it was a cry for help. In the end I reflected deeply and begun meditating, and within a few months I had began controlling these negative energy waves. Psychedelic substances were a great help as well.

Yeah I cut myself for the first time a few weeks ago after a really serious bout of depression.
Only reasoning I can explain for it is when you feel this intense pressure inside you that cannot come out, cannot be consoled or expressed... you doubt yourself so strongly that you need to feel a real pain to focus on to distract you from it. Real life is more immediate than what's in your head.

The reason lies in depression, or just being a cold person in general. When you think about how cold of a person you are that you not even give a shit if a family member dies, while everyone around you is sad makes you feel weird and out of place and makes you sad.

The sadness is sometimes so big that you start feeling inhumane and and want to feel something, hence the physical pain.

I don't cut myself anymore because I have accepted the way I am and embrace it. Having no sympathy is not a bad thing after all.
